I remember being a little kid and having all these big dreams. At one point I wanted to be a veterinarian. A few years later I wanted to be an astronaut. I think I even wanted to be a doctor. I think these are all really common things for a kid to want to be when they grow up, but that’s not really the point. I remember being little and just being so excited about the future. Did you feel that way too? What happened as we got older?
Obviously life changes as we get older and our perspective changes. I know I can’t speak for all of you, but wouldn’t it be nice if we could be excited about our careers now as adults? To really love our job and what we are doing?
I’m happy to say that I really love my job and I can honestly say I’d miss it if things changed. But when I was first starting out and trying to get into medical coding–I was scared. Scared I wasn’t going to find a job. Scared I wasn’t going to be able to do my job if I did. Just afraid of everything really.
Looking back I wish I had someone to show me the ropes a little. Once I finally got a medical coding job, I did meet great people to help me, but I’m talking about before that. I’m talking about having a coding mentor even when I wasn’t a “real” coder yet.
That is part of my motivation and why I put together this blog and all the other small projects that I do. I love helping new coders and people new to the field.
